Sutherland Estate

Sutherland Estate is a family-owned, boutique enterprise. We have endeavored to make the smallest footprint on our land. Our property consists of 110 acres, most of which is undisturbed native bushland. The large hill on the northern side of the property, upon which our cellar door is built, is known as Daniels Hill.

We have four small, separate vineyard blocks totalling about ten acres. Our original block (D block) was planted over a decade ago to Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon. There has been further plantings of these four varieties since then, together with two parcels of Tempranillo and Gewurztraminer.

Our cellar door is a relaxing, wonderful place to enjoy a glass of wine and a platter of Yarra Valley cheeses.

It is built on the side of Daniel’s Hill, on the northern side of the property, and enjoys panoramic views across the Yarra Valley to the Dandenong and Warburton ranges to the south.

The cellar door itself is graceful large room. Huge windows on the south take advantage of the Valley’s views, as does the spacious wooden deck that wraps round. Large windows to the north provide winter sun and warmth (the winter sun in Yarra is low in the northern sky). The thirteen metre vaulted ceiling rises to a stunning glass prism. A large, open fire warms in winter.
